Contractor Opportunity Overview
We are seeking experienced Registered Practical Nurses to join our network of independent healthcare contractors. This opportunity offers clinical autonomy, competitive compensation, flexible scheduling, and the ability to make a meaningful impact in clients' lives while maintaining your professional independence.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive client health assessments and develop individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians
- Perform wound care, catheter care, and clinical procedures within RPN scope of practice
- Monitor and document client vital signs and health status changes
- Manage complex medical conditions and post-acute care needs
Client & Family Education:
- Provide education to clients and families regarding health conditions and care management
- Teach clients and caregivers about medication management, symptom monitoring, and self-care techniques
- Support clients in understanding their care plans and health goals
Healthcare Coordination:
- Coordinate and collaborate actively with physicians, families, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, occupational therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
- Supervise and guide Personal Support Workers when working as part of integrated care team
- Participate in care conferences and discharge planning meetings
Professional Documentation:
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and care records
- Complete incident reports and communicate changes in client condition
- Ensure compliance with College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) standards
- Document care outcomes and quality indicators
Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergency situations and implement appropriate interventions
- Assess urgent health changes and coordinate with emergency services when necessary
- Provide crisis intervention and support during health emergencies
Qualifications & Requirements
Professional Licensing:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse
- Community health/home care experience preferred
- Current professional liability/malpractice insurance with minimum $5,000,000 coverage
Clinical Certifications:
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (Healthcare Provider level)
- Valid WHMIS 2015 Certificate of Completion
- IV therapy certification preferred
- Wound care certification an asset
Background Requirements:
- Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (current within 12 months)
- Professional references from previous employers or clinical supervisors
- Negative TB Test (completed within 12 months)
- Current immunizations as required by public health authorities
- COVID vaccination receipts (subject to exemptions pursuant to Ontario's Human Rights Code)
Business Requirements:
- HST registration (if applicable)
- Business license (if required by municipality)
- Professional liability insurance

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work independently and exercise professional judgment
- Flexibility and adaptability to diverse client needs
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Physical ability to perform nursing duties
Assets (Preferred):
- Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to reliable vehicle
- Specialized certifications (palliative care, diabetes education, etc.)
- Experience with pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
- Multilingual capabilities
- Leadership and mentoring experience

- Hourly rate: $32.00-$35.00 based on experience and specializations
- Travel compensation: $0.70/kilometer between client locations
