Common questions
Is foot care nursing covered by OHIP in Ontario?+
Unfortunately, in-home foot care nursing is not covered by OHIP. However, some private insurance plans and veterans' benefits do cover part or all of the cost. We provide detailed receipts you can submit for reimbursement. It's worth checking your policy — many families are surprised by what's covered.
How is this different from a foot care clinic or chiropodist?+
Our registered nurses come to your home, so there's no transportation or waiting room stress. We provide comprehensive nursing assessments along with foot care — checking circulation, sensation, and early warning signs of complications. For complex issues like ulcers or severe deformities, we'll refer you to a chiropodist or podiatrist, but for routine care and diabetic foot maintenance, we're a safe and convenient option.
My dad has thick toenails and diabetes — is that safe for you to handle?+
Yes. Our nurses are specifically trained in diabetic foot care and use proper techniques to safely trim thick, brittle nails without causing injury. We follow infection control protocols and assess for neuropathy or circulation issues at every visit. If we ever see something that requires specialist intervention, we'll let you know immediately and help coordinate next steps.
How often should someone get foot care nursing?+
Most people benefit from visits every 4–8 weeks, depending on nail growth rate and health conditions. People living with diabetes or circulation problems may need more frequent monitoring. We'll recommend a schedule during your first visit, but you're always in control of how often we come.
Do you serve areas outside downtown Toronto?+
Absolutely. We provide foot care nursing across the entire Greater Toronto Area — including North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Pickering, and Ajax. If you're not sure whether we cover your neighbourhood, just call and ask.
