What your caregiver does

Every visit is guided by a care plan tailored to your loved one's needs.

Home safety assessments — room-by-room evaluation and written recommendations
Home modification recommendations — grab bars, ramps, lighting, flooring
Adaptive equipment assessment and training
Daily living retraining (ADL) — dressing, bathing, cooking with new techniques
Cognitive strategies for memory and executive function
Caregiver education — safe transfer techniques, when to assist and when to step back

Why families choose Haven at Home

We assess in the real environment — their home, their bathroom, their stairs — not a clinic.

Our reports are specific: what to buy, where to put it, how to use it.

We work alongside physio and nursing when your loved one needs more than one type of support.

Signs you might need this

If any of these sound familiar, we can help.

Is your loved one at risk of falls or has their home become hazardous?
Do they struggle with daily tasks like dressing, bathing, or cooking?
Have they had a stroke, brain injury, or cognitive changes?
Do they need adaptive equipment or home modifications?
Are you a family caregiver who needs training on safe transfers?
Is your loved one returning home after a hospital stay?

Common questions

Is OT covered by insurance?+

Many extended health plans cover occupational therapy. Check your policy — we can provide documentation for reimbursement.

Can you do the home modifications or just recommend them?+

We recommend and specify. For installation, we can connect you with accessibility contractors we trust.

How is this different from what a PSW does?+

PSWs help with daily tasks. OTs figure out how to make those tasks easier or safer — through equipment, technique changes, or environmental modifications. OTs assess; PSWs assist.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?+

No referral is required for occupational therapy in Ontario. You can book directly.

How long does a home safety assessment take?+

About 90 minutes for a thorough evaluation. We don't rush — we look at everything.
